rc cola

rc cola has a very long past, and though somewhat popular, has never really been on the same scale as coke or pepsi. however it is its own unique cola, and not a generic dollar store cola. it is entirely likely that you have never seen or even heard of rc cola, and if you have ever seen it, it was almost definitely in a plastic bottle or can. however this is glass ( still uses corn syrup though) and was found at the absolute unlikeliest of stores, old navy! there is usually nothing in old navy i would ever want, but i was notified that they had rc cola by a fellow classmate, and had to check it out. the first 3 i went to didnt have it, but i finally found it last week. along with this was jones sodas and mexican coke to name a few. one movie i have seen that had rc cola was the green mile, and it was in EXTREMELY old glass bottles. i think even at the time of the movie they would have been antiques. for those who dont know, rc stands for royal crown, not remote control.

smell: a very distinct cola scent. not like coke or pepsi, but something entirely different.

taste: very good! this is sort of like the in between of coke and pepsi, tasting a little like both, and better than both too. this is also very spicy when cold, but not when warm. i have always had trouble describing the taste of cola, since it it so unlike anything else. keep in mind this uses corn syrup, so if there was a real sugar version it would probably be the best cola i have ever had.

overall: buy a palette! this is the best cola ( at least that uses corn syrup ) on the market, and i definitely recommend it over coke or pepsi. of course mexican coke or pepsi throwback are equally good

barbican apple

(pssst- theres a future review in the background) this is a mediterranean soder, which i know because it has arabic on it and i got it at a mediterranean store called sabbs market. if you happen to live near it or there are other locations, i reccomend you check it out since in addition to their vast array of strange soders, there are also a bunch of foreign delicacies that cant really be found anywhere else. back to the soder, at first i thought this was beer, as most would, but i thought it was odd that it was with the soders, and not the other beers. upon closer inspection, i learned this is apple flavored, and non alcoholic. this is a malt beverage, so i really have no idea what to expect since the only malt beverage i have ever had was malta goya, and that tasted like liquid cheerios. this has a very clean and quality looking bottle, unlike most soders which usually try for a nostalgic or child like look. this really looks like beer though. i dont know any oft the nutritional facts, or if theres a description since everythings in arabic and this has little to no web prescence.

smell: like apple juice, but not as strong. nothing like malta goya, which is to say the least, a relief.

taste: oh thats weird. it starts out like carbonated apple juice,  and then becomes very bitter like beer. since it uses real sugar and "nature identical apple flavour" this tastes really clean, which is rare for apple flavored items. the caronation is slightly foamy, which makes sense since it uses hops and malt like beer does. there is also a slight wheaty aftertaste like beer.

overall: buyer beware! this is a unique experience, but unfortunately it just doesnt taste very good. i have had much better apple soders, and the bitterness doesnt help either. i dont really hate this, but i wouldnt buy it again so i cant give it a higher rank than that.

body armor strawberry banana guava

having not gone to school due to being sick, i found myself somehow desperately craving a watery juice drink( gatorate for example) and after digging through my fridge, i found this health drink i got for free at a patriots game, along with a body armor t shirt for throwing a football through a small hole. having passed by the monster booth and picking up all the monsters people left on the ground, i was extremely overstocked on monster and decided to throw this in the trunk of the car we were tailgating in. anyways, i am very thirsty so lets get on with it!

smell: kind of gross. like a protein bar and how jarritos tamarind smelled.

taste: have to say, i expected a lot better from this. its been in the fridge for a week and still isnt cold, and it tastes like twizzler mixed with banana puree. and then some coconut water.

overall: buyer beware! this is still drinkable, and a lot better tasting than many other health drinks. however body armor makes much better flavors, so i cant recommend this to any audience.

java monster kona blend

so this is the final java monster for me to review, and one of the rarer ones at that. i say this is the final because i dont expect to come across any of the discontinued ones. the rarest at least in my area, is toffee, which is even rarer than the xpressos. the description says everybody knows some of the best coffee comes from the kona side of the big island of hawaii. well i didnt know that, and i honestly dont think the source of the coffee makes a big difference, its how you roast it and what you add to it. i dont really know what to expect from this, but if the awesome looking can with tikis and palm trees are any indication, this will be great.

smell: wow thats strong for a java monster. there is a very bold coffee scent, but also that pseudo liquor smell that irish blend has.

taste: well of all the java monsters this one tastes the most like coffee, and GOOD coffee too. i like the strong coffee taste, mixed with some sort of chocolate. honestly loca moca should taste like this instead of being the exact same thing as mean bean.

kick: not jittery, but very long lasting. got me through an entire day of walking without getting the slightest bit tired. although after it wore off my feet were in pretty damn bad shape and i didnt even notice.

overall: buy a palette! this is one of the better java monsters, with a great kick too. you caqn actually taste the coffee in this one, which is something that cant be said about most java monsters. this is the 3rd best, with second being hammer xpresso, and first being irish blend. this tastes like how loca moca should taste, and that is very good.

super chill ginger ale

having recently bought an iphone 5, you may notice a sharp increase in quality of the picures compared to the old ones i took with the crappy 3g camera. unfortunately, i already have a ton of other reviews written, and to get the better quality pictures i have to either find the soders again and take a picture, or get one off google. getting to back to the soder, chill is a variety of cheap dollar store sodas, which are often sold at shaws but i have never seen them anywhere else. this is super chill, and from what i can tell is no different in any way from the rest of the flavors. being a generic brand soder, this naturally uses corn syrup. i feel kind of sick today so i figured today would be a good time to drink this since ginger is good for that. people usually think generic soders are really crappy, but honestly they are often just as good if not better then their more expensive counterparts. a great example is shasta or rip it.

smell: regular old ginger ale, but maybe a bit sweeter.

taste: not bad. this is a pretty good ginger ale, although not as good as vernors which i expected. there is very little ginger taste, which to me is not a bad thing, but not a great thing either. i would probably rather drink this than most ginger beers just because of how spicy they are though.

overall: try a can! not bad, but pretty much your average nondescript ginger ale but a little bit better. its super cheap so i reccommend it.

rumba energy juice

now juice energy drinks are not by any means new to the market. after all, monster makes like 5 of them, so juice must mask the taste of caffeine and b vitamins right? this has all the EXACT same chemicals printed along the top of the can as monster. the part of this that makes it so much different from the other juice energy drinks is that this is actually 100% juice. the highest monster goes is 80%. from the design on the front of the can, you would think this is orange juice, but its actually a mishmash of 7 different fruits.

smell: reeks of orange juice, and i mean just orange juice and nothing else.

taste: not bad! like orange juice but a little sweeter and a little different. also not carbonated which makes it much easier to chug. i am not the biggest fan of orange juice, but this is okay.

kick: pretty good nothing special though loses points for no listed caffeine content, and upon looking for that, i also noticed this is made by the same company as monster, and has all the same amounts of b vitamins and energy blend.

overall: try a can! not the best energy drink ever, but its caffeinated orange juice. how original is that? if you like orange juice you will love the hell out of this, and if your like me and dont, give it a try anyway because its sweeter.

rip it tribute active mandarin live wild lime

the name is quite a mouthful, and i have no idea why they have to mention that the mandarin lime is live and active. this seems to be paying tribute to us soldiers, but doesnt mention why. what i love about this drink is that it looks NOTHING like a dollar store drink, unlike the rest of the rip its. there is already a lime rip it called lime wrecker, but maybe there will be a noticeable difference since this uses mandarin limes. after all, mandarin oranges are like a completely different fruit than american oranges. but my biggest question is that if this is paying tribute to us soldiers, then why the hell does it use CHINESE limes?

smell: mountain dew!!!! this smells exactly like mountain dew!!! i really like mountain dew, but its caffeine content is way too low for me to drink as an energy drink, but high enough that i wont be able to sleep until 2:00 am if i drink it later in the day. i generally dont drink any soders until later in the day, just an energy drink in the morning.

taste: wow that is great! its like mountain dew, but even better! i have come to have high expectations from rip it, but this really blows away any energy drink that isnt a coffee monster. this is a terrific energy drink, and drink in general, and i really hope this isnt a limited edition flavor. this may be trying to rip off amp, but this doesnt have the flintstone vitamin taste that amp has.

kick: same awesome kick as all the other rip its. but this one is the best tasting yet.

overall: buy a palette! this is one of the best energy drinks in existance, and is the best value for an energy drink to exist. there is no energy drink you can get for 1$ that is of higher quality than this. every rip it i have had was not only good, but surpassed the drink it was ripping off. this has an unusually high caffeine content of 200mg, and its still only 1$

starbucks refreshers raspberry pomegranate

i walked by the starbucks in the mall, and saw their line of uncanned refreshers. the canned flavors are limited to red fruits like raspberry, pomegranate, and strawberry, but the cool lime refresher looked pretty delicious. of course that one you cant get in a can, and i would never even consider paying 5$ for anything like that.  so this flavor of refresher is raspberry pomegranate, but like the other one i am sure its completely unrelated to coffee, and starbucks should take its big fatass logo off the front. this is just an energy drink, and it doesnt matter that the caffeine comes from unroasted coffee beans.

smell: exactly the same as the strawberry lemonaid. not great, but its a pleasant smell. kind of like beer actually, but no bitter alcohol scent. it has that wheaty smell.

taste: well for starters this has almost no carbonation at all, and the flavor is terrible. its kind of like actual fruit at first, then everything blends into an artificial candy sweetness that tastes terrible. first of all i hate real fruit, and also the artificial candy sweetness is on the back of your tongue making you gag.

kick: i cant even drink the whole thing, so refer to my previous starbucks refresher review because it probably has the exact same kick.

overall: do not buy! energy drinks may not be famous for tasting good, but a LEAST most are drinkable. i couldnt even drink this whole thing. this is really awful tasting, and a feel sick not only from drinking it, but the fact that starbucks made 3$ off me with this piece of crap.

jamaican country style cream soda

jamaican country style is the brand, and this is reggae style. last i checked, reggae is a type of music, but is being used to say this soda is jamaican. i have never had a "reggae" style soda, so i have no idea what to expect. this is clear so it might be like jones cream soda, but who knows. you still have to pay a deposit and the bottle is returnable in the us, meaning this is not imported like it makes itself out to be.

smell: oh no... insanely hard to twist off cap..... yep its rusted. this is a very common problem with non proffesionally bottled drinks, and i have run into it three times now. it makes the cap hard to remove, and it makes your drink taste like blood if you drink it from the bottle because theres rust all over the top of the bottle. anyway this smells like cream soda but with actual cream in it. and the cream part doesnt smell very fresh either.

taste: crap. pure crap. this is like the crappiest of the crap cream soda you have ever had, plus extra sour and less carbonation. this tastes more like flat sprite with vanilla syrup added to it. i actually tried that once, but vanilla syrup is made to taste good in coffee, not soda so it tastes horrible, and this is extremely reminiscent of it. i at least avoided the rust by pouring it into a glass, but this is still terrible.

overall: buyer beware!  this is pretty bad, but the only reason it doesnt get a worse rating is that i could still drink this, and its a lot better than a lot of other drinks i have had.

vegasfuel energy drink experience

sorry for the delayed review. i had a bunch of crap to do but theres probably nobody waiting so who gives a crap. so this is a very bland can, with only a red dot on a bunch of black. also it appears they trademarked the phrase "put a little vegas in you" which is severely disturbing and makes me not want to drink this. i would say this is a red bull ripoff, but then again, this is 16oz and black. maybe its a rip off of something else, or maybe its even a unique drink of its own!

smell: fruit punch, but like real fruit punch not hawaiian punch. unfortunately i strongly dislike real fruit.

taste: well i have had much better, but its like real fruit punch and the aftertaste is LITERALLY MINT TOOTHPASTE. this is troubling to drink, for some reason i dont hate it very much.

kick: crappy. kept me going for about an hour and a half, but during that time i could honestly fall asleep if i wanted to.

overall: do not buy! this is a very crappy tasting energy drink, and the kick is very poor, making this not worth the trouble it is to drink this. so dont put any vegas in you. its a terrible idea, and will leave you dissapointed. ( okay i said it. happy?)

warning to other blog users!

this post will be about illegitimate pageviews. if you have a blog, you most likely have looked at your stats and seen how many people have seen your blog, and the websites they used to get to it. if you havent noticed there are probably a missive amount of pageviews coming from a weird website that isnt google. these are just people that want you to notice that and visit their site. strangely if you just click on the link it leads to a "cannot display this page". many people complain about this and google just says ignore them. one website i got a bunch of views from was "pregolom" to i used google translate to find out what the hell it was. guess what? its a russian porn site! yep this kind of crap happens on pretty much every blog so be forewarned. and guess what? RANDOM PICTURE!!!!!

old fashioned moustache elixir

i really really love the packaging for this. unfortunately, there is a 99% chance it will be a red bull clone. seriously, almost every energy drink this isnt a big brand is a red bull clone, but even more so with novelty energy drinks. the top of can is also covered in fuzz for some reason, maybe it made the can grow a moustache. i think i would have plenty of moustache  if i wanted it without this though.

smell: actually not red bull. something like lemonade but also something else sweet in it.

taste: actually, its like mountain dew believe it or not. its also mtn dew colored as you can see in the picture. well actually its even more atomic piss colored than mtn dew. quite a good flavor. the corn syrup makes it pretty syrupy and gives it a bad aftertaste though.

kick: small red bull kick. no jitters, just a bunch of focus. which i guess is a desirable trait in energy drinks, although if i was doing anything other than sitting in front of a computer and typing, i would opt for something stronger. i am typing this unusually fast with no typos at all, so this does make a great focus drink.

overall: buy a palette! very nice tasting for an energy drink, and incredible for a novelty energy drink. plus it has the best name ever. it also has a nice focused kick. i really expected crap from a novelty energy drink, as their focus is not to be a good drink, its to laugh at the name.

arizona cherry lime rickey

i should mention that i am the FIRST REVIEWER!!!! for this new drink by arizona, as it just came out and apparently today was the release date since my local 711 didnt have it yesterday. as most of you may know, this was exclusively launched at 711 for arizonas 20th anniversary with much fanfare. the best part about this drink is that its a huge ass 24oz can, and the arizona company is based in new york. this absolutely CRAPS all over the soda ban being enacted in new york. and i am very happy too see that over half of the city think its a retarded idea. the can design differs radically from arizonas normal cans,  and also it does not contain any tea. this is flavored with real fruit juice (10%) and contains 6 different fruit juices. this is colored with vegetable juice, and all the natural stuff is ruined by every chemical ever put in soda. corn syrup, sucralose, ace k, ester gum and all that crap. i usually love lime rickeys, but they are usually not cherry. it has a qr code on it thats allows you to win an unknown prize.

smell: orange juice? that not even one of the 6 juices..... odd.

taste: disappointment. this tastes like real fruit juice for sure, but like most carbonated fruit juices, this tastes sour and watery, and just generally unsatisfying. fruit juices are generally like that to me, and despite the corn syrup and artificial sweeteners, the taste is still pretty natural. i was disappointed by this, but if you like fruit juice you will probably like this. there are definite cherry and lime tastes, but the other fruits blend in and mute them. i was waiting a month for this, and thats why i was really disappointed.

overall: buyer beware! i had high hopes for a lime rickey drink, but was sadly disappointed. of course this is still a great value at 1$ for a big ass 24 oz can, i didnt like it. this isnt horrible, but i would never buy it again. arizona has much better offerings, and again i still cant believe nobody has reviewed this on any other website yet.

faygo candy apple soda

( the original photo i took got lost somehow, so i just used one from google instead of delaying the review to buy a another one)

so this is a very strange variety of soder, candy apple. this is also incredibly cheap, at only 1$ per 24 ounce bottle. but that should be expected since every drink made by the national beverage company is 1$. i am surprised nobody ever tried to do this, since candy apple is still sort of a fruity flavor, and everybody seems to love making fruit soders.  this is also a rare type of faygo in the one convenience store i can find it it, and its very rarely in stock. there was 10 of them the day before i got this, and this was the last one, so either this is a very popular drink in my town or there is one person that likes this and buys out the entire stock when its available.

smell: exactly like candy apples. and also sister (in a vicious attempt to try it before me) decided to carelessly rip it open after it had been shaken on my walk home from buying it, and half the bottle exploded all over the kitchen floor, and its probably going to be sticky as hell until a bunch of ants lick it clean.

taste: not being familiar with candy apple taste since i hate apples and would never buy one, i cant say this tastes like them, but does taste like how they smell. this is pretty similar in taste to postobon, but without the bubblegum taste.

overall: try a bottle! its a pretty unique soder, and pretty good at that. although i dont think i can drink the entire 24 ounce bottle of it, its worth trying. and if you decide you dont like it? your only penalty is a dollar, and then you can shoot it with a bb gun or something.

jolt power cola

so this review is a day early, because im out of town tomorrow.

here before me stands one of the rarest energy drinks in existance. it is nearly impossible to find this in most of the country, and i found mine in a random gas station. why this is rare i cant really say since cola is such a hard flavor to screw up, and cola would seem like the perfect carrier for energy drinks. jolt makes other flavors, but they are even rarer than this. what many dont know is that jolt was the FIRST nationally available energy drink. the first ever was dr enuf, but that was only in chicago. once red bull entered the energy drink market jolt sort of fell into oblivion. the energy cola market was still not completely dead, as both red bull and rockstar started making one, but red bulls didnt sell for crap so it stopped being sold in the us. rockstar cola still exists but is rare at least in my area. well enough about the past lets try this!

smell: like coke, but maybe more herbal.

taste: really good for an energy drink. for a soder, not so much. this isnt bad, but has a vitamin taste to it ( you know like those flintstone vitamins everybody took as a kid) i guess cola really isnt the perfect carrier for energy drinks. that award goes to coffee. its still better than say, monster redbull or rockstar, but its not phenomenal.

kick: decent. this was somewhat weak to me, which is pretty surprising for something that was almost taken off the market long ago for caffeine content. i assume the caffeine content has been reduced since the company changed hands so much and came under so much fire for its caffeine content in the past.
EDIT: the caffeine content is 190mg in a 16 oz can. that is significantly more than monster. i have no idea why the can i had in this review was so weak, and maybe it was old or something because i recently had a can that tasted much better and kicked a lot harder.

overall: try a can! this is a pretty nice tasting energy drink, though its not that good for a cola. its worth a try and has an okay kick. though this isnt the best, im still surprised it is so rare because this is great compared to any of the leading energy drinks.

captn elis parrot punch

sorry for the delay, i just forgot to post this yesterday.
this is one of many captn eli drinks bottled in maine and made with real sugar. im pretty sure this is the only non carbonated one, but thats okay because i like punch. i only managed to get this one, but on my next trip to maine i will get more of these. well theres not much else to say about this so lets try it!

smell: like hawaiian punch, but cleaner.

taste: okay this is definitely carbonated, despite not saying that on the bottle. its kind of like carbonated hawaiian punch, but fresher because of the real sugar instead of the corn syrup used in hawaiian punch.

overall: try a bottle! its nothing incredible, but its interesting, and worth a try. i also like to support small businesses so try it if only for that.

jeffs chocolate soda egg cream

so i am very afraid to try this soda. for one, it is an egg cream, and that sounds disgusting. it also is 97% fat free, which means its 3% fat. not many sodas hae fat in them, and thats not exactly a desirable ingredient for a drink. my other reason for being scared, is that it has milk in it and i REALLY hate milk. i have also had this for about a month and a half, and milk doesnt stay good for that long. it does have preservatives, but im still afraid. it also says not to shake and i am left wondering why. this is made by the egg cream company and part of the email address is "getcreamed" so this company must do a lot of business somewhere else because i have never once seen a bottle of this outside of the "weird" section of the soda aisle.

smell: yum! like hot chocolate. except cold.

taste: oh that is really weird. and not in a good way. its like carbonated hot chocolate but sour. it also has no aftertaste, which is very odd for something that has milk and hfcs in it. and when pouring it into a shot glass, you can see its odd thickness and it looks like hot chocolate that coats the glass with bubbles. i was at least glad it wasnt chunky.

overall: do not buy! there are probably not any other chocolate sodas, but chocolate isnt the kind of thing you carbonate. neither is gravy, but jones soda co did that. anyway this would be pretty good if it werent sour. and i have no idea why its sour because theres no citric acid in it. this is pretty gross and i am amazed the "egg cream company" is even still in business because i cant see anybody liking this. also milk is a very bad ingredient to put in a drink unless its a coffee drink. they make a vanilla one too, which im sure is equally bad. i poured this down the drain, which is something i dont often do. if i paid for a drink, i will choke it down, unless its REALLY gross.

i hate to do this but.....

so i really do hate to do this, but i signed up for an adsense account. i am sorry if that pisses you off, but i really would like free money from google. hopefully the ads will not be in the way, and if they are i will move them. just leave a comment about it i really dont mind. they will either be added in the next 48 hours, or they will reject my application like douchebags.

EDIT: instead of rejecting my application, they made me fill out tax crap, and a billing address and all that, and now i am told that i am paid 0.000000005 cents per click on an ad. i am sure i get a TON of traffic on this blog, and everybody clicks on the ads too, so i flipped google the bird and removed the ads. enjoy!

so since i provide no review of soder........

RANDOM PICTURE GO!!!!!!!!!

postobon apple flavored soda.

what an odd design for an apple soda can. a bunch of pink bubbles pink stripes, and a red ketchup smear under the logo. this JUST FRICKIN SCREAMS BUBBLEGUM SODA!!!!!. it also says apple in four different languages all around the top of the can. apple manzana pomme mela and apfel. despite this being a foreign looking drink, it still has hfcs.  also it gives the real amount of ml in a 12 oz can- 354. most just round it off to 355. well hopefully this will be as good as the previous apple soda i tried- sidral mundet.

smell: like apples. not just apple juice it actually smells like sliced apples. blegh. hopefully it will taste better than that.

taste: WOW. this is really good! its still somewhat like apples, but also tastes like bubblegum (which was to be expected) but also some sort of other fruitiness that is hard to pinpoint. no bad aftertaste either. actually theres some strange but delicious flavor that lingers a while after your done drinking.

overall: buy a palette! this is a very great apple soda. its even better than sidral mundet which as you may recall i rated very favorably. its not over the top sweet either which i like.

Sunday, July 29, 2012

sidral mundet

as odd as it sounds, this soda which is mexican is impossible to find near me, but i found it in maine. albeit overpriced and in a mexican restaurant. although i took spanish in middle school, i still have no idea what sidral mundet means. luckily it says apple soda in english on the bottle. this is weird because apple in spanish is manzana, and it says that nowhere on the bottle. it being apple put me off at first because i HATE apples and apple products. but i cannot let my hatred get in the way of my quest to try every soda in existance. this soda is also almost always sold alongside with jarritos sodas, which have a similarly cool shaped and textured bottle. there doesnt seem to be any connection between the two brands, as they each have their own website and jarritos isnt mentioned anywhere on the bottle or website.

smell: bleh. apple juice. sweeter but still appley enough for me to hate it. ugh.

taste: mmmmm- very appley, but also much sweeter and lighter than normal apple juice. the carbonation level is very low, but it still doesnt go flat fast. very very good, especially considering that i REALLY HATE apple. it also tasted very dry to me, but that may just be because there was no ac in the mexican restaurant and i was really thirsty.

overall: buy a case! this stuff tastes great even to somebody who hates apple. though it wasnt cheap at 2.75 plus tax but that may just be because it in maine, which is as far away from mexico as you can get,  and it was in a very overpriced tourist town. if you can find it anywhere else which you probably can, its a must buy!

mug cream soda

so heres an odd one- a drink made by a national company, but is still so rare i didnt even know it existed. a perfect example of why the bottling system national brands use sucks. each bottler is allowed to choose which drinks to bottle, and which ones not to. this leads to regional inequalities, the most painful of which is mountain dew livewire, my favorite of the dew flavors, which i havent seen in about 10 years. this is also why most fanta flavors other than orange are impossible to find in the us. and that is why most people dont know mug makes anything other than root beer. unless you live in maine, in which case you probably do know about this drink.

smell: vanilla. disappointing vanilla, just like every other cheap cream soda (which admittedly are pretty rare too).

taste: meh. just an average cream soda. of course i expected nothing more from a mug soda given that their root beer is also just as crappy as all the other cheap ones. but my standards are a bit unfair since im used to drinking virgils cream soda. i had a hard time drinking the whole bottle and thats really saying something because cream soda is one of my favorite sodas when done correctly. it also leaves the same horrible aftertaste mug root beer does, forcing you to keep drinking it. i am 100% sure that the reason this sucks so bad is that it uses corn syrup. cream soda seems to be like cola in that it is absolutely RUINED without real sugar.

overall: buyer beware! it doesnt taste horrible, but try it if you see it because you probably wont ever see it again. its really no different than any other cheap cream soda, and the vending machine i got it out of had much better options, as will wherever you might find it.

sea dog root beer

well this is the first in a series of reviews, like i said in my last post, i will do one each day of the sodas i got in maine.

so heres a soda native to maine, that at least to my knowledge cannot be found anywhere else. it also is made with cane sugar, which is expected from a locally made beverage. it also lists all the herbs and flavorings in it like anise, vanilla, and wintergreen oil, much like virgils root beer. it says its old style so im hoping that means better style and it wont be like every other crappy root beer.

smell: like every other crappy root beer. though virgils does too so the smell is no indication.

taste: very good! better than most root beers by a longshot, and is also very foamy instead of fizzy, if you can tell the difference, indicating that it is brewed and is real root beer so its carbonation is natural. it is similar to the legendary taste of a&w root beer before it was crappily reformulated with aged vanilla.

overall: buy a case! this is an exceptionally good root beer. if your ever in maine on vacation, this is a must buy, and is much better than most of the other sodas that can be found there.

maine delay

sorry for the delay, i was in maine for the week. fortunately there were a whole bunch of sodas there that are locally bottled, that i tried and wrote reviews for. i will post one of these every day until i run out, to make up for the delay. so once again, a random picture:

you get cookie if you can guess what that sticker is

q kola

(yes thats a mameshiba plush in the background)

let me start off and say i am VERY frustrated at my computer because safari decided to "quit unexpectedly" as soon as i was done with this review and i lost all of it. luckily i still had some of this drink left so i can still do the review justice.

so this is an interesting beverage. its supposed to be a cola, but it spells cola with a "k" which is the real way to spell it. however it also shares that trait with inca kola, well known for tasting NOTHING like cola. the color of this is also a darker shade of inca kolas color. this does not bode well for q kola. its also in a very small 8 oz bottle, which kind of sucks because it costs 2.50 for ONE of these at whole foods. there is coriander in the ingredients list which is just another name for cilantro ( a very odd thing to put in a soda if you ask me) and let me just say that i HATE cilantro! read some stories at ihatecilantro if you think im crazy. well lets pop this open and see if it was worth it!

smell: very gingery. like a ginger beer but not as strong. it smells nothing like cola, which worries me. also i am also relieved that it doesnt have the soapy chemical scent that i get when i smell cilantro.

taste: disappointment. pure disappointment. this is less like a cola, it is more like a diluted ginger ale. at least i cant taste the cilantro, but i was expecting a lot more than this. the taste is very weak, more like a flavored soda water than an actual soda. it has a little spice in it, but still nothing at all like a cola.

overall: do not buy! this is very weak, and very overpriced. though my dad liked it, he only likes healthy drinks and stuff like that. you probably will be disappointed by it. if you want a "kola" that doesnt taste like cola, then try inca cola. at least that has a lot of flavor.

bawls guarana exxtra

bawls....... what an interesting name. and apparently the kind i bought has 50% more caffiene than the original, and is also sugar free!

packaging: a glass bottle with bumps all over it. kinda goes with the name, and provides an unneccesary but welcome grip.  it also says guaranexx on the bottle, but guarana exxtra on the cap. odd.

smell: there is very little scent, but smells like how sprite tastes, mixed with something fruity and artificial at the same time.

taste:  pretty good! like diet sprite but doesnt just taste like soda water with barely any flavoring. also that odd artificial-fruity smell comes out in the taste. im assuming thats the guarana im tasting, as thats what the original is flavored as. for an energy drink, this is VERY good tasting.

kick: ( note: this rating will NOT be included in reviews that arent energy drinks)
very nice. no jitters, and no crash since theres no sugar. kept me awake through an entire night of gaming.

overall: give it a try! i can see some not liking the taste or expecting an over the top buzz from the extra caffiene.

MY FIRST POST! :D

so this is my first post to my soda reviewing blog. dont really have anything too special to say, so ill say that i will try to post a soder review every week, until i run out of soders to review, after which it will slow down. so i hope this ends up as good as the other soda reviewers. also i have a scale for how good soders are:

do not buy: the drink is disgusting and putrid and should never be bought by anyone.
buyer beware: the drink is bad and not worth the money.
try a bottle/can/whatever: the drink is worth trying, but not great.
buy a case: the drink awesome and worth buying again.
buy a palette: extremely delicious. almost as good as it gets.
buy a shipping container: perfection. tastes godly.

for energy drinks i will include a rating for how much energy they give you, but i really hate rating that as there are so many variables that change the rating such as: how much sleep i got last night, whether i am exercising under the drinks effects, how fast i drink it, my caffeine tolerance on the day i try each drink, and the fact that every drink almost always has the same kick. but i have to include this because thats why energy drinks exist.

i dont really have anything else to say so i guess to entertain you, heres a random picture:
